How would you devote your time to visiting temples if you’ve got a few days? And what if you only got a day? It’s gonna be perfect to have a few days in Siem Reap, the Angkor Region. Visit all the most well-known temples and the outside of Angkor complex as Kulen National Park, Banteay Srei, and Kbar Spean. However, if you only got a day, you can follow my route to see these top beautiful temples.

1/ Ta Prohm

Start from Ta Prohm temple, known as the monastery of the king and university for the Angkorian region between the 12th and 13th centuries. Have you seen Tomb Raider’s Movie? It was filmed here. It will be so adventurous if you take a bike and go for self-exploring. Ride on the Apsara Rd, straight on until the ticket checking point then turn right. When you reach the Banteay Kdei and Sras Srang turn left for about five minutes to Ta Prohm Temple.

2/ East Mebon & Pre Rup

Turn back, and keep going on the Sras Srang bank, just only about 10-15 minutes to the south of East Baray, and you will arrive at the temple of Pre Rup. The combination of brick, laterite, and sandstone was constructed in 961 and early 962. The temple looks very golden or Reddish heightened by the sunlight in the morning and twilight. About 5-10 minutes there’s a brotherhood temple, East Mebon Temple, the general style from Pre Rup. It was believed to be surrounded by water and it was built on the island of East Baray.

3/ Preah Khan

One of my favorite temples in the Angkor Complex, the outside one from the others. It was built in 12 the century for King Jayavarman VII to honor his father. The temple is still unrestored with numerous trees and vegetation growing on the ruins. What makes it so special is by getting through the Angkor Site fully covered by jungle to reach it. It’s very fewer tourists most of the time.

4/ Bayon

Angkor Thom is the second largest religious monument and the last state temple to be built in Angkor, Siem Reap. The gigantic smiling faces on the temple’s towers. It was believed that the faces are represented to King Jayavarman VII.

5/ Angkor Wat

A very magical spiritual temple. The largest religious monument in the world. It was dedicated to the god Vishnu of the Khmer Empire then into a Buddhist temple at the end of the 12th century and now serves as an important tourist attraction in Cambodia.
