What to do and where to explore around the capital city?
When the weekend arrives, many of us find ourselves pondering what to do with our time. Perhaps we yearn to escape the bustling city we inhabit, even if just for a day or two. If you’re stuck on where to go or what to do to shake off the city blues, fret not. There are countless activities to get your heart racing and your spirits soaring, no matter what your interests are.
One of my favourite ways to break free from the daily grind is to embark on a day hike near the Triple Provinces. Not only does this offer an opportunity to bask in the glory of nature, but it also promises breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. If that weren’t enough, the highlight of this adventure is a visit to the glorious waterfall atop Oral Mountain. The cascading waters are the perfect backdrop for a picnic lunch or a leisurely walk through the surrounding woods.
So, if you find yourself itching to escape from the chaos of the city, consider a day trekking at the triple provinces and marvelling at the stunning waterfall on the top of Oral Mountain. You’ll return to the city rejuvenated and ready to tackle whatever comes your way.
The Oral Mountain range spans across three provinces in Cambodia – Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, and Pursat. Surprisingly, it is located only a few hours away from the bustling capital city of Phnom Penh. The region boasts several waterfalls that cascade from the top of the mountain all the way down to the base. Interestingly, most locals flock to the second or third drop of the waterfall as it is easily accessible. They can slide down and swim in the waters, making it a favourite spot for those seeking adventure and fun.
However, as one moves toward the middle, one may come across a few drops that have been abandoned due to dense undergrowth and fallen trees. While it may pose a challenge for some, traversing through the rugged terrain and admiring the untouched beauty of the region is an experience that should not be missed.
To witness the breathtaking beauty of the waterfall, our group had to embark on a challenging journey that required an hour-long hike and climb through the dense jungle. Though the trek was physically demanding, we were blissful to share the experience, exchanging laughter and unstoppable jokes with our local trekking guide and other fellow hikers throughout the way.
As we reached the top of the trail, I could sense the exhaustion and weariness engulfing my body. Despite this, once I laid my eyes upon the magnificent waterfall, I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride for having made the strenuous climb. It was truly remarkable to be surrounded by such picturesque nature. Majestic trees, an array of wildflowers, and hundreds of different kinds of butterflies fluttered around us.
The waterfall, however, was the centrepiece of this breathtaking landscape. It cascaded down from the top of the mountain and plunged into the river below. Its powerful roar could be heard from miles away. The cool, refreshing mist created by the impact of the water against the rocks added a delightful touch to our experience.
This was a moment for us to relax, unwind, and bask in the awe-inspiring beauty of nature. It was an enchanting experience that allowed us to escape from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to witness this marvel, and I felt blessed to share this moment with my friends.
The morning was perfect for a hike, the air crisp with an amazing breeze and fresh gusts that invigorated the lungs as we made our way up the mountain. The hike was long, but the scenery was worth it. As we reached the summit, we couldn’t wait any longer and jumped straight into the icy water. It was so refreshing that it felt like we had been reborn. The sun came out and began to warm us up once again.
We took a moment to soak in the beauty of the mountain range, enjoying the conversation with a local dog and other hikers in the open area. Our conversations were filled with stories of past expeditions, and we exchanged tips and tricks for future hikes. The atmosphere was filled with positivity and joy.
As the day began to draw to a close, we packed our bags and started our descent. The hike back down was just as rewarding as the climb up. The lush greenery and stunning views accompanied each step we took. The feeling of accomplishment was unparalleled and the perfect way to end a perfect Sunday.
This hiking trip was more than just a form of exercise, it was an experience that brought people together. It provided us with an escape from our daily routine and the chance to connect with nature and with one another. It was a reminder of the simple joys of life that we often overlook. This hike was the perfect preparation for the week ahead, and we couldn’t wait to tackle it with renewed energy and a clear mind.
